Alligators can live to be at least 35, and might even live to be 50 years old if they are in the wild. They live mostly in swampy areas in Florida. The American alligator is the largest reptile in North America. The alligator can be distinguished from the American crocodile by its face and black color. Alligators eat just about anything, including fish, snakes, small mammals, birds, crustaceans, and even small alligators. The reason they are endangered is because they are hunted for their hides, alligators today are threatened mainly by habitat loss, which is due to human population groth. To help this species reach normal population we should make it illegal to harm or kill these alligators. Then we could also make "safe areas" for these alligators to live and give them the best possible living conditions.
